License and Activation
Do I need additional licences for virtual machines?
Please be informed that when multiple virtual machines are running on the same physical host, additional licenses for AVG are required, supposing AVG is installed on more than one instance.
Example:
If four virtual machines were concurrently running on the same
physical host, the 5-computer license for AVG would be required.
To transfer AVG license from an old computer to a new one, please follow steps in FAQ 3255.
For further assistance, please contact AVG Customer Services.
Do I need additional licences for multiple OS computer?

- Open the AVG Program.
- Double-click the License component.
- Your AVG License Number is displayed in the middle part of the window in blue text.
- Click the blue AVG License Number, and then click Copy license number to store it to the clipboard.
- Enter the license number into the text field by using the CTRL+V shortcut, or by right-clicking the text field and then clicking Paste.
Note: If you are rewriting the license
number manually, please be careful to not confuse "1" (one) and "I"
(India), "5" (five) and "S" (Sierra), or "8" (eight) and "B" (Bravo).
The characters "0" (zero) and "O" (Oscar) are interchangeable, both can be used.
License number is incomplete in AVG
After you enter the license or sales number into AVG during installation or activation and it is accepted, your AVG is correctly licensed. The number you used for activation is however never shown in its complete form anywhere in AVG - the last group of four characters is hidden. This for security reasons, to prevent an unauthorized person to use your license by writing it down from your AVG program.
If you need to reinstall AVG, or you are installing e.g. AVG Internet Security 3-pack edition on all three computers, it is needed to always enter the full license number that was provided to you upon purchase or registration. The short license number taken directly from AVG will not be accepted.
The short license number is on the other hand sufficient for your authentication when contacting AVG Customer Services, and for any common tasks related to your product.
How do I upgrade my current AVG product with my newly purchased AVG License Number?
Please note that it is not necessary to uninstall your current AVG product.
To upgrade your AVG product, simply:
- Download the latest AVG 2011 installation file here (choose your edition and click on the link "Paid version").
- Run the downloaded file and choose the Add/remove components option.
- Then replace your current AVG License Number with your newly purchased AVG License Number.
We suggest copying your new AVG License Number from the e-mail received after your upgrade was processed, and pasting it into the appropriate field during the installation.
Note: The new product will expire at the same date as your original license.
My Trial license ran out before the end of its 30 day period. What happened?
If the AVG Trial version is displaying that it has already expired, the AVG Trial program was probably installed on the computer before, or the system date has changed since installing AVG.
We suggest you check your system date. System date can be checked this way.
I have already registered, but I still receive a message that forces me to register. What should I do?
The problem is probably caused by the fact that you are still using the AVG Sales Number, which is valid for 30 days only.
Please activate your current AVG product on your computer using the that you obtained after the registration:
- Run AVG by clicking on the AVG icon on your desktop or in your system tray bar.
- From the Help drop-down menu select Reactivate.
- Enter your license number in the License Number field and click on Activate.
- Please use the copy and paste method instead of typing the AVG License Number to avoid any possible mistakes.
My AVG License Number does not work (is invalid/expired). What should I do?
Please first check:
- Whether you have downloaded and installed the correct edition of AVG software that you purchased.
- If you have the correct date/year set up in your system. System date can be checked this way.
- If you have entered the AVG License Number correctly by using the Copy and Paste method.
If you are still experiencing problems, please contact AVG Customer Services.
The end of the license period is approaching, where do I obtain a new license number?
A new license number will be sent when we receive a customer order by post or e-mail. You can also renew your license number via the Upgrade Center or by contacting your AVG distributor. A direct link to our Upgrade Center will appear in the AVG program approximately 30 days before your license expires .
If you have any further questions, please contact AVG Customer Services.
I didn't receive my license number after registering the sales number
The license number is automatically sent to the e-mail address used in the registration form immediately after the registration process. If you didn't receive an e-mail, there are several possible reasons:
- The e-mail was not sent because the registration process was not completed correctly
Please try to register your AVG again via the Registration form. - The e-mail was blocked by a spam filter
The e-mail may have been filtered by an anti-spam control on your computer or on the mail server. Please contact your system administrator to solve this. - The e-mail address incorrectly entered
If your e-mail address was not entered correctly into the registration, it is not possible to deliver the e-mail. In this case, please contact AVG Customer Services.
License number is not valid
If you receive a message indicating that your license number is not valid, it is possible that it was not entered correctly. Please compare the license number that you entered with the one that you received from AVG. We recommend that you use the copy&paste method to make sure that you enter the license number correctly.
- Make sure that the license number you are entering is complete (not truncated), as described in FAQ 3503
- Make sure that you are using or installing the latest AVG program version; the latest installation package is available on the AVG downloads site.
