AVG PC Tuneup is a computer maintenance and optimization tool that you can install together with AVG.

This standalone application analyzes and fixes different issues that might occur on your computer, speeding up the system and making it more secure.

Running the System Scan will check for and repair errors in the following areas:

• Registry Errors - fixing these errors makes the system more stable
• Junk Files - cleans up old files to free disk space
• Disk Errors - repairing these errors prevents the loss of data
• Disk Fragmentation - defragmenting speeds up your hard drive

System Advisor helps you secure your PC - it will give you advice on application and system settings.

Resource Usage shows how your computer is being used. You can view details for each of the categories.

Under Advanced Tools, various tweak tools are available to quickly optimize the corresponding areas.

In order to install AVG PC Tuneup please proceed as follows:

1. Please download the latest installation file from the Download section.

• Right-click the AVG for Windows link, and then click Save (Link/Target) As.
• When prompted, please do not open this file directly from the Internet, but click Save and choose location where installation file should be stored. We recommend saving the file to the Desktop.

2. Reboot your computer.

3. Close all running applications, locate the downloaded AVG installation file (it has a four color square icon and its name starts with AVG_...) and launch it.

• Follow the installation wizard.
• If AVG PC Tuneup asks you for a computer restart, please do so.
• After the installation, activate AVG PC Tuneup as described in FAQ 3881.

AVG PC Tuneup supports the following Windows operating systems:

• Windows XP with SP2 or later
• Windows 2003
• Windows Vista
• Windows Server 2008
• Windows 7

In all cases, 32-bit and 64-bit platforms are supported.

Please note that Windows 2000, 95, 98, 98SE and Windows ME are not supported.

The AVG PC Tuneup program update is performed by reinstalling the program with a new version. To update your AVG PC Tuneup, please follow the steps below:

1. Verify that you are logged into Windows as a user with administrative rights, as described in FAQ 2521.
2. Download the latest installation file of AVG PC Tuneup from the Download section of our website. We recommend that you save the file on your Desktop.
3. Double-click the downloaded AVG PC Tuneup installation file on your Desktop. The previous installation of AVG PC Tuneup will be automatically detected.
4. When asked whether you would like to uninstall the previous version of AVG PC Tuneup, select Yes.
5. A dialog will be displayed asking you whether you want to have the Rescue Center backups removed. We recommend that you select No and keep the backups. This way, you will be able to undo the changes made by AVG PC Tuneup in the future.
6. Follow the installation wizard and install AVG PC Tuneup.

Registration of the reinstalled AVG PC Tuneup is not required.

Note: It is not possible to schedule automatic updates for AVG PC Tuneup.

The latest installation package of AVG PC Tuneup can be obtained in the Download section of our website (the step-by-step guide for AVG PC Tuneup installation can be found in FAQ 3809). The application is functional for 24 hours after the installation and is able to fix all issues found by PC Analyzer.

After the 24-hours trial period expires, it is necessary to purchase AVG PC Tuneup and to enter (register) the license code:

• If your AVG PC Tuneup trial period is complete already, you will not be able to run the application, and an expiration dialog will be shown when attempting to open AVG PC Tuneup. You can either continue to purchase AVG PC Tuneup, or activate your license if you already have a license code.
• You can also register AVG PC Tuneup anytime earlier as described in FAQ 3881.

In the AVG PC Tuneup scan results, you may encounter following message:

Some files or keys might be locked by running applications on your PC and cannot be removed automatically. You can use the Advanced Tools for further analysis.

File locking is a commonly-used solution to prevent a collision of two or more programs attempting to modify or access a file, which could result in data corruption.

If AVG PC Tuneup cannot repair a certain file because it is locked by the operating system, usually the file can be repaired later when it is no longer locked by the operating system.

To restore the changes made to your computer by AVG PC Tuneup, proceed as follows:

1. Click Start -> Programs (or All Programs) -> AVG PC Tuneup 2011 -> AVG Rescue Center.
2. In the left part of the window, select Backups.
3. Select the backup you wish to restore in the displayed list, and click Restore.

By following the steps above, you can undo all changes made by AVG PC Tuneup, one by one.

Note: AVG Rescue Center is working even if the trial period expires.

Follow the simple steps below to activate your AVG PC Tuneup:

1. Open AVG PC Tuneup program.
2. On the Help menu click About.
3. Click the Click to register now text.
4. Insert your license number and then click Register. We recommend that you use copy&paste method.
