Cannot Log In
The problem could be caused by insufficient access rights on target PC. For the remote installation of AVG
it is required that target PC's local administrator's account is used,
in domain networks it is recommended to use domain administrator
account. Please note that the account must have specified non-blank
password due to security reasons.
If the operating system of target PC is Windows XP, check following (and modify if it does not correspond):
Start
-> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative tools ->
Local Security Policy -> Security settings -> Local Policies ->
Security Options -> Network Access: Sharing and security model for
local accounts:
- default value: local users authenticate as guests
- new value: local users authenticate as themselves
To prove this:
- Open Start -> Run item on source computer
- Enter path \\<target_machine_name>\C$. (Example: \\tester\c$)
- Press
enter. Open Winnt folder and try to save any file in there. If this is
not possible, you do not have access to the C drive on target
machine.
Ports used by remote installation
If you use firewall in your network, you need to allow communication on the following ports to install AVG remotely:
1. Ping (ICMP type 0 - Incoming echo request) - required to find a remote station in the network.
2. Microsoft Files and Printers Sharing (TCP ports 139, 445 and UDP ports 137,138) - required to copy AvgAgent tool on the remote computer using Admin$ sharing.
3. RPC: Remote Procedure Call (TCP and UDP port 135) - required to launch AvgAgent service on the target PC.
4. Communication on TCP port number 6150 for AVG Network Installer Wizard and AvgAgent
common communication. Using this port AVG Network Installer Wizard
controls the AvgAgent tool and uploads the installation files of AVG
onto the target station.
Note:
We recommend you to save the source AVG installation package on the local hard disk of
the computer with AVG Remote Administration to prevent possible
timeouts during the network installation. Please always use
the latest installation package which can be downloaded from the Download section.
